A drainage system is a network of channels, hydraulic control structures, or levees that drain and protect the land from potential flooding. They can be natural or human-made. Importantly, they also have the advantage of collecting runoff, allowing water to percolate quickly into the aquifers.

Most of the drainage system is buildup with the concrete material, which reduces the friction for the water and water moving quickly into the river. The heightened elevation area drainage system creates an extra force to pass out water. Where the lower area drainage system can’t be able to create the same force as a high area makes, in other words, the input is more, and output is less. That’s the reason for the flood.

How can the drainage system help to prevent or control the flood?

  1. The concrete drainage block needs to replace with the “Porous asphalt.” that can allow water to sink into the ground.
  2. The high elevation area drainage system can have a barrier that can give some time to the water. It can reduce the water flow, which moving forward to the lower area.
  3. It could be a newly designed drainage concrete block, which can help water to sink into the ground.

The newly designed drainage system blocks can help to recharge the groundwater too. Nowadays, It’s also one of the most common problems in the cities. This is how a new drainage system can help with two different water issues.

How does the current drainage system work?

The current drainage system is reducing friction and passes water quickly toward the lower elevation area; It’s led to cause flood as well as the reduction of groundwater. (Figure 1, and 2)

Figure 1

A concrete block creates a barrier between water and ground which is shown in Figure 1.

Figure 2

Figure 2 shows how the current drainage block helps water to move forward quickly.

How can a newly designed drainage system work?

The newly designed drainage system can help water to sink into the ground, which reduces the chances of the flood as well as helps to recharge the groundwater too. (Figure 3, and 4)

Figure 3

According to the amount of water flow, a new design block will be placed in between the existing blocks (Figure 3).

Figure 4

Figure 4 shows how the new design block reduces the water flow and recharge groundwater.
